Has anyone used it personally or know someone who has? If so, did it speed up labor? What dosage? Serious answers

Can someone tell me about evening primrose oil as means of induction?
I just started to take it 2 days ago so i can't tell you if it works yet.
Evening Primrose Oil acts as a prostaglandin, which ripens or softens the cervix. It's also useful for softening scar tissue from abortions or IUD damage. This will soften/ripen the cervical tissues and increase the flexibility of the pelvic ligaments. This will help the baby to deeply engage in the pelvis. This early application of the baby's head will assist with dilation and should result in a relatively easy birth, even after multiple C-sections for "stalled" labor. Evening Primrose Oil may be helpful for women with borderline pelvises as well. The utilization of Evening Primrose Oil seems to enhance the complex set of biochemical messages that initiate labor.
You can take evening primrose oil, orally, in the last four weeks of your pregnancy. You should take three evening primrose oil capsules daily for the first week (36th week of gestation) and then one to two capsules a day for the last three weeks of pregnancy.
Buy it at drugstores. About 1500mg a day either ingested orally or inserted vaginally (lay down for a while after inserting). Oral is thought to be more effective.
Reply:I know how you feel, i dont think there's a women out there that isn't tired at the end. I took acupunture at the end and that was on a wed and i had him friday afternoon, it brings the labour on easy as apposed to them medically inducing where there could be some side effects from drugs. And acupunture does not hurt the needles are so small you can't even feel them. they relax you for a total of 20 mins with the needles in and that's it, has a 95% rate of working, good luck.
Reply:U shouldnt induce labour unless the hospital does it for you, If your baby is happy in there then i would leave it, I went 3 weeks over my due date %26amp; it was hell but i held on. But My brothers girlfriend took cod liver oil %26amp; went into labour soon after so I dunno if it was that or not but her baby was early, Then again she has never been the sharpest tool in the shed if you catch my drift lol. Its up to you at the end of the day tho. All I do know is = chilli con carny, Walking, bumpy car ride %26amp; sex doesnt bring on labour lol xx
Reply:Evening Primrose Oil is a natural prostegladen*spl?*. It is also found in the semen fluid, hence why people tell you to have sex to bring on labour.
I was told just to follow what was on the bottle, so 2tabs twice a day. As I now am having a c-section I have droped that down to once a day. I am keeping on using it as I have a BAD PMS problem and I don't wanna put my man and new baby through that =)
Reply:I feel your pain I really do..Im 36 weeks preggo with my 3rd baby..My first was 5 days late so with my second I took Red Rasberry Leaft tea and took Evening Primrose Oil orally and inserted 3 capsuls(500 mg) and had my little girl 9 days early..However now 9 days early to me now seems like not enough..I wish i'd go into labor now...LOL..I know that sounds selfish but my baby is large already too...Ahh I wish us both luck..Try it it does work cause before it only took like 2 weeks of taking the Primrose. GOOD LUCK :)
Reply:As an OB nurse, I have seen women try just about everything. Oils, herbs, massage, needles, and exercise - none of that works unless your body was ready in the first place. This is your last chance at peace and quiet for quite a while, try to enjoy it while you can.
Reply:Evening Primrose Oil and Red Raspberry Leaf Tea
Neither will actually induce labor. While some lay midwives will argue that statement about the Evening Primrose, which is the reason it is not recommended until 36 weeks or "full term", almost all sources with experience agree that it does nothing that the body was not ready to do on its own. I will repeat this at the end of this section, to make sure you understand this, as there is a lot of confusion and misconception surrounding these two substances.
Evening primrose oil is an excellent source of prostaglandins, which we already determined readies your cervix for labor. It can be taken orally as soon as 34 weeks, and can be applied directly to the cervix at full term (36 weeks). The general recommendation is two 500mg
capsules per day until week 38, at which time you increase to 3-4 per day. The entire capsule can be inserted vaginally (inserted just before bed, it will dissolve before the first time you wake to use the bathroom), or you can use the oil on your fingers for your perineal massage, then also rub on your cervix (assuming you can reach it). Applying directly to the cervix is optimal, but the beneficial ingredients are absorbed through the external skin or the stomach also.
Red raspberry leaf tea is a uterine tonic used by Native Americans for thousands of years. It tones your uterus by helping to "focus" your Braxton Hicks contractions. Think of its job as helping your uterus do more effective exercising while you are pregnant. It does not "cause" contractions and can be safely used throughout pregnancy. It is contraindicated for those having complications "just in case", however, by most doctors who do not understand its use. Many women safely use it from the moment they learn they are pregnant at six weeks until months after delivery. (It helps to tone the uterus after delivery as well, shrinking it back to size more quickly and reducing bleeding.)
Again, neither of these actually causes labor to start!
