How long do you have to wait for Evening Primrose to take effect?

I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I've not dilated and my cervix has not ripened. Has anyone else tried the Evening Primrose? What happened?

Reply:Evening Primrose Oil is not designed to induce labor. It just helps soften and ripen your cervix. When I was 34 weeks, I was not effaced or dialated AT ALL. After that appointment, I used 1 capsule twice daily vaginally and 1 capsule twice daily orally. At 36 weeks I was then 80% effaced. I then increased it to two capsules twice daily orally and vaginally. At 38 weeks I was then dialated to 2cm. After that I increased it to three times daily, and now (I am due tomorrow) I am 95% effaced, but still the same dialation. I have an induction scheduled for next week, and my OB/GYN says that because of using the oil, my cervix should dialate more quickly once active labor begins.
