Just had a copper IUD fitted and my hormones are all over the show. I was wondering if there were any side effects which would effect the contraceptive.
Are there any side effects to taking evening primrose oil whilst i have an IUD fitted?
Is it a standard copper IUCD or one of the new ones which secretes a synthetic hormone ("Mirena")?
There can always be adverse reactions and drug reactions, especially if 2 drugs share the same enzymes for breakdown. The exact mechanism of action of a standard copper IUCD is still not properly understood, there are only theories, so I wouldn't rule anything out. Both products can have adverse reactions on their own.
However, I'd imagine the likelihood of an adverse reaction resulting from the combination is low enough for you to go ahead with both "treatments".

Reply:Evening Primrose is pretty harmless though not very effective, it will however cause no issues if taken while having your coil fitted.
Reply:Absolutely no problem with taking evening primrose oil whether you have a copper coil or a Marina. I t will take a couple of weeks for your coil to bed in then you should be okay. Remember to go for check after coil been in for 6 weeks
