I have the primrose oil capsules and I am just wondering. Is it more effective if you ake them orally or insert them? Also how much should I take? The capsules are 1000 mg each. And are there any side effects or can it cause harm if inserted vaginally?
Primrose Oil? How???
I tried them both ways and I found inserting them to be more effective.
When I swallowed them, I would burp up the taste, EEEWWWW!!!
I used a safety pin to pop them open. I used two 500mg tabs 3 times a day. I squirted the oil onto my fingers. I applied the oil directly to my cervix and would rub it in as much as I could. The whole process is pretty messy, so do wear a pantiliner throughout the day.
I started using these 3 weeks before I delivered. I was 5 cm before I even went into labor! I have used many methods to induce my own labor, but this was awesome at helping me to dilate early. Thumbs up for a fast labor :-)
***UPDATE***
During the day, I would suggest rubbing it into your cervix instead of inserting a capsule since it can slip. At night, inserting one is fine.
I really do not see what harm it would cause to use more capsules. Worse case scenerio, you dilate faster?! Evening primrose oil is super safe, I just would not SWALLOW more than directed.
At night, why not try messaging your cervix with 1 capsule full and then inserting another as a suppository?
I dont know how it will go with you, but I started losing mucous the day after I began using the capsules. You should notice immediate results!
Reply:Either way will do.
Evening primrose oil is an excellent source of prostaglandins. The general recommendation is to take 3-4 primrose oil capsules (500 mg per capsule) daily. Primrose oil can also be applied directly on the cervix if your membranes are intact (and you have not been diagnosed with placenta previa). Use the oil on your fingers to apply it on the cervix. If you have difficulties to reach it, ask your partner to insert the entire capsule into your vagina just before bedtime.
REad below for more advice on this:
Reply:I have never heard of using them as a vaginal suppository. Take them orally as instructed on the bottle.
Reply:They are more effective if used as suppositories. My midwife suggested doing that but I took them orally instead and it did no good for me. No side effects for me, just ineffective. The only side effects I've heard of is the chance of diarrhea.
