Can some of you tell me your experience with using primrose oil....?

I know it doesnt induce labor, but does it really help your cervix? See, i am about 38 weeks pregnant and my cervix is still closed. My Dr. said when my cervix was ready we could induce, so I went and got some primrose oil 1300mg. I started today using it, I inserted one and swallowed 2 ...how long does it take to work? If it does?

Can some of you tell me your experience with using primrose oil....?
I am a huge believe that when the body is ready then its ready. Inducing before the body is ready can result in a more difficult labor and a longer labor. There are many complicated hormonal pathways involved in labor. Inducing before the body is ready only supplies a few of the hormones not all of them. If you go weeks over your due date then induce, but now, I would just wait and let your body take the lead. The female body is very good at delivering babies, just let it do the work.
Reply:I agree with the others that say don't do anything to induce yourself. Your body knows what it's doing. Also, before they induce, they will prepare your cervix to soften. They usually do this the night before induction. Of my four children, two were induced and the doctor's did what they needed to do to make the cervix ready.
Reply:my mid wife told me the same thing but i never did it.

i was a 3, 3 weeks before i was induced and a five the day before.

good luck!
Reply:Never put anything into your pregnant body that the doctor has not told you to. You don't know what kind of harm you can do to your baby or yourself. Babies come when they are ready. Nature takes care of preparing you.
Reply:your 38 weeks still have two weeks to go why are trying to induce now you don't have to start dilating this early loads of women start dilating days before labor

taking primrose oil is going to do nothing unless your ready to go into labor which by the sounds of it your not

most of these things are old wife's tales and don't work anyway
Reply:I can't say that I tried primrose oil to try and soften my cervix...I used to walk up hills and ride over gravel roads (did not work!!) Just made me nauseated.

I have heard that you are supposed to take the primrose oil suring the last 4 weeks of your pregnancy because it takes a while to work...but if you are taking it now, I would not take it any more than twice a day...any more than that is overkill.

I wish you the best of luck for you and your new baby....I have included a website that may educate you on the use of primrose (borage) oil...
