I assumed she wouldn't eat it, as she'll normally leave food with any medicine in, so I stroked it onto her skin instead. To my amazement she turned round and licked it off my hand with relish. Now she goes to the bottle every night asking for more and absolutely gobbles it up. Has anyone heard of a cat liking Evening Primrose, and why is it attractive to a cat? It just smells like cooking oil to me.
A vet suggested giving my cat Evening Primrose oil in her food for her skin condition.......?
Evening Primrose Oil is high in Omega Fatty Acids, so your cat likely has some sort of deficiency. A deficiency in Omega Fatty Acids can lead to all sorts of things, but skin conditions are common.
You could always just buy a different food with a higher content instead of giving her a suppliment. It would probably a lot safer for the pet. Primrose oil is pretty safe for people but there have not been a lot of studies for pets.
Just remember, the things cats like arn't always the things that taste good, but rather the things that they feel they need.
Reply:cats have all sorts odd likes my cat likes curry and onions.
but rubbing it into her fur want help
Reply:That's great! Believe me I have been very frustrated with trying to get things into cats through the food channel. Mine just won't touch it.
Who knows what will appeal to a cat? Their sense of smell is so superior to ours. I hope that it helps her with her problem.
